Thousands of women ask this every year. One recent study funded by Allergan uncovered the primary motivations for women who choose to undergo breast augmentation. The study comprised of 3,000 breast augmentation patients were asked to describe which of these primary motivations most closely suited them:
* To please my partner
* To improve my sex life
* To make me feel better about my physical appearance
* To improve the way I feel about myself
* To increase my chance of meeting a partner
In addition, they were asked one year later after their breast augmentation as to whether or not they were satisfied with having had breast augmentation..
The study had some interesting results, though not entirely surprising. Around 50% of the participants in the study noted they were "extremely" motivated to feel better about her physical appearance. Another 40% said they were at least "quite a bit" motivated by the same factor.
On the contrary, over 90% were not at all motivated by increasing their chance of meeting a partner, while one-third said they were not motivated to undergo breast augmentation as a way to please their partner.
Breast Augmentation: One Year Later
This study confirmed what I've read and heard before about general satisfaction after having had the procedure. 96% of the patients studied one year later said they were satisfied that they had undergone the procedure.
Breast Augmentation Revision: The Main Reason
According to another study released in August 2008 by Marina Plastic Surgery Associates, the leading cause for breast augmentation revision procedure is not infection, deflation, or capsular contracture. The most common reason women go back for 2nd surgeries is simply to change their breast implant size.

My Conclusion:
Women who have chosen to undergo breast augmentation are motivated to do so to feel better about their physical appearance. While in most cases they are satisfied that they went through the surgery, the leading cause for going back again is to change their breast implant size.
